Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1
Manali to Khanjer (11,564 ft) (via Udaipur) - 135 km Drive
Starting from Manali and driving through the Atal Tunnel and up the Chandrabhaga Valley to reach Udaipur. From there, continue along the Miyar River to the picturesque village of Khanjer. This is the last road-accessible village, surrounded by lush fields and dramatic cliffs. Overnight in camps or a homestay.
Day 2
Rest Day at Khanjer (Acclimatization & Exploration)
Today is reserved for rest and acclimatization. Trekkers can explore the traditional homes, visit the village, or take short walks to nearby ridgelines. Use this day to get used to the altitude and prep for the trail ahead.
Day 3
Khanjer to Yolling (12,345 ft) - 12Km
The trail begins gently, taking you through lush farmlands, Buddhist chortens, and flat alpine meadows. Expect to cross small rivulets. Camp at Yolling, a beautiful open site with views of the surrounding peaks.
Day 4
Yolling to Zardong (12,667 ft) - 12km
A longer walk through boulder fields and high alpine pastures. The wide-open valley becomes narrower and more dramatic as granite walls close in. Zardong offers a majestic campsite surrounded by towering rock faces.
Day 5
Zardong to Palpu (13,202 ft) (River Crossing Day) - 4km
This is a challenging day with multiple cold stream crossings—some deep, fast, and wide. It’s important to carry quick-drying footwear or sandals to avoid damage to your main trekking shoes. The trail itself winds through glacial outwash plains with dramatic views all around. Camp at Palpu, a remote site with a raw alpine feel.
Day 6
Palpu to Lake to Gompa - 14km
Begin the day with a hike to a hidden glacial lake near the snout of the Miyar Glacier. The lake’s emerald-green waters surrounded by ice walls are a highlight of the trek. Later, descend gradually toward Gompa, another serene alpine campsite.
Day 7
Gompa to Khanjer (via Yolling) - 10 km & Khanjer to Manali - 135 km Drive
Retrace your steps back to Khanjer, passing through familiar meadows and campsites. With the hardest days behind you, this is a time for relaxed walks and quiet reflection. Drive back to Manali via Udaipur and the Atal Tunnel. Expect to reach by late afternoon. Allow for buffer time when booking evening buses or flights.

Overview :
The Miyar Valley Trek is a rare gem tucked away in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh—often referred to as the Yosemite of the Himalayas for its expansive meadows, dramatic granite cliffs, and glacier-fed streams. Unlike the narrow, forested trails of other Himalayan treks, Miyar opens into wide alpine pastures where wildflowers bloom endlessly in the summer and hidden emerald lakes glisten near the glacier snout. The trek starts from Khanjar, the last village in the valley, and follows the Miyar River deep into untouched alpine wilderness. While the trail is not high on technical difficulty, it involves multiple stream crossings, long walking days, and a deeply immersive mountain experience that few other trails can match.
